Discipleship Education | “Illumination”
Sunday mornings at 9:10 a.m.
Join us for “Illumination” a transformative class designed for both beginner and expert Scripture readers seeking to deepen their understanding of the Bible. Drawing inspiration from the ancient Celtic practice of scripture illumination, this course invites participants to explore the rich tapestry of biblical texts through a blend of study, reflection, and community engagement. This class will be in conjunction with The Hive and will be held every Sunday this Lent. Join us as we embark on this enlightening journey together, uncovering the beauty and wisdom of the Bible while fostering a deeper relationship with God and each other. Whether you are new to Scripture or a seasoned reader, “Illumination” offers a unique opportunity to shine a light on your faith.
Bible Study at Waverly Heights
Vincent Van Gogh and the Beauty of Lent
Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m.
What do Van Gogh’s iconic works, such as “Sunflowers” have to do with Lent? Join us as we explore art, nature, and spiritual practices using Van Gogh’s paintings and Scripture for a Lenten devotional journey. Each week, we will examine a passage from the Bible, one or more of Van Gogh’s works, and be challenged to work with our head, heart, or hands to live into our faith. This Bible study will track with Sunday’s scriptures in church.

Confession during Lent
Our clergy are available during Lent for private confession. Please contact the church office or see the rector if you would like to schedule one.
HOLY WEEK & EASTER
Palm Sunday, April 13
8:00 a.m. & 10:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist
Palm Sunday is the final Sunday of Lent, the beginning of Holy Week, and it reminds us of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, days before he was crucified. In the Gospels, Jesus entered Jerusalem riding a young donkey to the cheers of the townspeople who threw clothes, or palms or small branches, in front of him to show how happy they were that he came. At the beginning of the service, we begin with a blessing and waving our palm branches. The Episcopal tradition combines Palm Sunday with a reading of the passion story (story of Jesus’ death).
Holy Wednesday, April 16
6:30 p.m. Gospel Reading
In-person and on zoom
Here at St. Christopher’s we have marked the Wednesday in Holy Week with a wonderful tradition of reading an entire Gospel from start to finish. Join us as we listen to the Gospel of Luke read aloud. Want to read a portion? Contact the church office to sign up. If you are coming in person, you are welcome to bring a brown bag dinner.
Easter Sunday, April 20
8:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist with Music
10:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist with Special Music
Easter Egg Hunt following the 10 a.m. service
Join us for Easter Sunday! It is the day we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus and the joy of knowing that it points to our eternal life through him. All are welcome!
We have a tradition of “Flowering the Cross” on Easter Sunday. It is a symbol of new life found in the promise of Easter. We will celebrate the Resurrection and the flowering of the cross is a beautiful way to give thanks. We invite you to bring a flower, anything that might be growing in your garden (or in the cooler at McCaffrey’s), on Easter Sunday.
Good Friday, April 18
11:30 a.m. Stations of the Cross
Optional Good Friday devotional before the service. Come to both or one or the other.
12:00 noon Good Friday Liturgy, with Sermon
Good Friday is a day that says when Jesus dies he is showing us God loves the whole world. He does something hard to show his love for everybody. We call it “good” because we know Easter is coming and Jesus will rise from the dead. The cross is typically seen as a place to lay your burdens. This year, we invite you to write prayers, sorrows, and things you no longer want to carry on your heart on provided pieces of paper. You may also wish to leave symbols of your burdens that will be collected and disposed of, such as photos or objects. The doors will be open for prayer until 3:00 p.m.
Holy Saturday, April 19
8:30 a.m. Morning Prayer Service
Join us for Morning Prayer Worship. Holy Saturday is the day before Easter and the last day of Holy Week in which we prepare for Easter. It commemorates the day that Jesus Christ’s body lay in the tomb.
7:00 p.m. The Great Vigil of Easter
Holy Saturday is the night when we celebrate the Easter Vigil. This is perhaps the most surprising and vibrant service of Holy Week! The liturgy is intended to be the first (and arguably, the primary) celebration of Easter since the earliest days of the Church. The service begins in darkness, and consists of four parts: The Service of Light (kindling of new fire to symbolize the light of Christ returning to the world, lighting the Paschal candle); The Service of Lessons (where we read sacred stories of how God has moved in all of history); the Renewal of Baptismal Vows; and the Eucharist.

Easter Flowers
The Easter Flowers each year are provided through a $30.00 donation by parishioners in memory of loved ones. This is a lovely way to remember family and friends with whom you have shared the mystery and joy of Easter in years past. If you would like to participate in this, please fill out the following form and return it with your donation to the parish office by April 6th. Checks should be made out to: St. Christopher’s Church.
