How do I become a member?
“For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.”
– 1 Corinthians 12:12
How Do I Become A Member?
Greetings in the Name of the Lord!
We are thrilled that you are considering becoming a member of this wonderful parish! We are a church on a mission to lift people up as Christ calls and you would be a welcomed partner in that vocation! Here are some of the steps to joining us:
- The first step to membership is baptism. “Holy Baptism is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s Body, the Church” (Book of Common Prayer, p. 298). In the waters of baptism we are lovingly adopted by God into God’s family, which we call the Church, and given God’s own life to share and be reminded that nothing can separate us from God’s love in Christ. (The Rite of Holy Baptism can be found on pp. 297-308 of the Book of Common Prayer.) If you have not yet been baptized, let us know and we will be overjoyed to welcome you into the Christian family.
- In the Episcopal Church, we believe that ALL Christians (of any denomination) who have been baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Spirit are members of God’s Church. Thus if you are already baptized, the next step is to let us know more about you! The fastest way to do this is to complete the Newcomers Information card found in the pew and return it to the Priest, place it in the offering plate, mail it in, or hand it to one of the weekly Sunday greeters. If you have joined us from a different denomination, you will be invited to be welcomed into the Episcopal tradition with a confirmation or reception at our next visit from the Bishop.
- The final step is getting involved and connected! Our Priest and a member of our Newcomers Committee will contact you to get together for a meeting to see how you might like to begin being active in the life of the parish. During the year, we have several programs specifically geared for newcomers and enquirers—including a special coffee fellowship hour, Enquirers Class, and unique invitations to our events. There are so many ways to grow in your relationship with Jesus at St. Christopher’s, and we have something for you and your family!
We are so excited and blessed by your presences and we are looking forward to growing in our relationship with God together!
