Fall Discipleship Series | Gospel of John
Begins Sunday, September 18th at 9:10 a.m.
PLEASE JOIN this discussion series. We’ll meet every Sunday, September 18th to Thanksgiving, from 9:10 to 9:50 a.m. In most of the sessions, two of your fellow parishioners will lead discussions on a section of the Gospel of John. You can participate in person, or remotely by using the zoom link in the weekly email.
The Gospel of John has an emphasis different from the other Gospels. The “synoptic” Gospels….Mark, Luke, and Matthew….focus on the story of Jesus’ life and His teachings. There are plot and teachings in John, but the focus is always on who Jesus is, and why that matters. In some ways John is a radical departure from the other Gospels. It is of great interest to try to understand John’s perspective, and how that perspective influenced the development of Christianity.
John is also poetic, cosmic, sometimes difficult, and always fascinating. We will all learn from this discussion.
This is the seventh in our annual series of lay-led discussion seminars. Discussion leaders this fall will include Peggy Cooke, Joan Harrison, Kristen Ostendorf, Linda McConnell, Linda Groff, Phyllis Drackley, Peg Schofield, George Wrangham, James Curcione, Cliff Pemberton, Shaun Lockett, Demetrie Comnas, Ken Jones, and Don Rice. These sessions will be a good way to get to know each other in a context different from the usual.
Our introductory session, focusing on the historical background and significance of the Gospel of John, will be on Sunday, September 18th at 9:10 in the Library or Parish Hall (to be determined). We hope to see you there.
