ST. CHRISTOPHER’S CHURCH 75TH ANNIVERSARY CAPITAL CAMPAIGN
Blessing Our Spiritual Home for the Future
St. Christopher’s Church is undertaking a capital campaign during 2025, the Church’s 75th anniversary.
Our description of the needs and goals is here.
More briefly,
- Our generation of parishioners inherited our lovely facilities from our wise and generous predecessors. We have paid operating expenses but have not made substantial capital investments.
- Now, capital investments are necessary to ensure that our wonderful church is flourishing into the future:
- The HVAC systems are 75 or 62 years old (depending on the building). An outside engineering study, and a great deal of experience on our part, make completely clear that a thorough revamping and modernization are needed, urgently. Much work is going into design, with long-term reliability as the key goal. We anticipate a construction project in the summer of 2026.
- Other needed improvements to our physical plant include work to make the Parish Hall useful year-round for all ages, the next step on modern windows, playground enhancements, and others.
- A financial analysis shows that we should increase the Endowment substantially.
- Viewing it as necessary (consistent with our identity) to include an Outreach component, we are directing $100,000 to the Welcome Table of St. James School, which was identified after research as the best possible partner.
- Our goal is to raise $3.5 million: $2.4 million for physical plant, $1 million for Endowment, and $100,000 for Outreach. That is a lot for our parish, and generosity will be required! (We have early commitments, as of mid May 2025, of almost $1.6 million.)
Stepping back a bit, this is not really about HVAC or Endowment. It is about due gratitude for our church and Day School, and the necessity of investments, now, to prepare them for the long term. Aren’t we (and our children and grandchildren) bombarded with materialism and greed in our daily lives and culture? We have the privilege of coming to St. Christopher’s, which regularly connects us to better values and better lives. We need to invest now, to make sure St. Christopher’s flourishes into the future.
