Good Friday

Good Friday 12:00 & 7:30pm

This is the day that Jesus died. After celebrating the Passover with his disciples on Maundy Thursday, Jesus goes to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. While he was there, he was arrested. He was then questioned and sentenced to death. He was hung on a cross along with two criminals. During his last three hours on the cross, from noon to 3 p.m., darkness fell on the whole land. It is the most somber and reverent of all the Holy Week services.

Why is it called “Good Friday”?

It is a day that says when Jesus dies he is showing us God loves the whole world. He does something hard to show his love for everybody. We call it “good” because we know Easter is coming and Jesus will rise from the dead.

What happens during the service?

We have two services- one at noon (the time when darkness first fell) and one at 7:30pm. The scripture read during this service tells the story of the events that lead to Jesus’ death. We also take communion from the reserved sacrament.
