Jack Arndt Memorial Turkey Carving Celebration
November 24, 2021 @ 8:30 am - 11:00 am
Dear Fellow Parishioners at St. Christopher’s Church,
We recently goodbye to our friend and fellow parishioner Jack Arndt in a beautiful and moving service at our church. The purpose of my note to you today is to update you on the fast approaching tradition Jack started at St. Chris 31 years ago. This tradition is now called the Jack Arndt Memorial Turkey Carving celebration for the benefit of the Community Kitchen at the Church of the Advocate (COA) and the people they serve.
As you undoubtedly can appreciate, the ongoing and persistent outbreak has called for us to alter our usual plans somewhat. But what is clear is that we will be relying on your charity and cooking talents even more this year for the Church of the Advocate especially on Wednesday, November 24, 2021. We will be following the same protocol we used last year and I wanted to share those details with you.
CARVERS: This year we are asking our carvers to offer their time throughout the event (from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.) We will be sure to place the carving stations in a socially distant manner. Please come and stay as long as you wish
PACKERS: We will still be packing the turkey for shipment to COA in the parish hall. We are looking for three to four packers to help us with this task. We will also maintain proper protocols at the packing stations.
KITCHEN CREW: The kitchen crew is excused again this year. We will be shipping the string beans, yams and cranberry sauce to the COA ahead of time. COA will rely on their Yam recipe.
Year in and year out, thanks to your generosity our parish and people outside of it has shined forth in this marking of the Thanksgiving holiday. As stated earlier, this year marks the 31st year of our Turkey Carving Celebration. We remain hopeful that next year a proper celebration can be had to mark this milestone and all who have helped and continue to help. Our efforts and our turkeys are needed even more this year by the good people at the Church of the Advocate and those they serve. So, let’s answer the call! But let’s also do our level best to make it fun! Get others involved (neighbors, friends, relatives). Use Zoom! Remember who we are serving and what it means.
